Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva held a meeting with President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Odile Renaud-Basso during her practical visit to London.

It should be noted that over the past 6 years, cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EBRD has reached a new qualitative level. Today, the Bank's portfolio of projects in our country exceeds 4 billion euros. With the financial support of the EBRD, important projects are being implemented to improve the welfare of the population and create new jobs.

Uzbekistan is one of the five main partners of the bank, our country has become the largest EBRD business partner in Central Asia in terms of annual investments.The directions of joint initiatives implemented between Uzbekistan and EBRD were discussed at the meeting.

Also, based on the fact that gender equality issues are a priority of state policy, together with EBRD, prospects for cooperation in vocational training of rural women and the formation of entrepreneurial skills were considered.

O Rino-Basso emphasized that the EBRD strategy for our country for 2024-2029, approved yesterday, is fully consistent with Uzbekistan’s strategy for 2030, which reflects priorities such as greening the economy, inclusion, gender equality and digitalization, outlined by the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

At the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Republican Commission for Enhancing the Role of Women in Society, the Republican Commission on Gender Equality and Family and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The memorandum provides for empowering women in the labor market, achieving gender balance in employment, expanding access to credit resources and ensuring financial independence.
