On June 27 of this year, the Committee on Women and Gender Equality of the Senate discussed issues to be discussed at the next plenary session of the Senate. 

In particular, the senators focused on the Law “On additions and amendments to Article 208 of the Labor Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.

At the meeting, the senators acknowledged that the role and place of trade unions in the life of the society has been increasing in recent years, that the organization protects the rights and interests of workers and creates decent working and rest conditions for them.

As it was mentioned, during the past period, many positive works were carried out by the trade unions to support the workers and solve their problems.

In the past period, the labor rights of 5 425 employees were restored with the efforts of industry employees, and nearly 11 billion soums were collected for their benefit, which is a practical confirmation of the important role of trade unions in ensuring labor legislation.

At the same time, the elimination of more than 5,000 deficiencies that could endanger the life and work of employees in 932 enterprises and organizations in terms of labor protection indicates that an effective system has been created in this regard.

At present, more than 34 000 primary organizations are working effectively in the system of trade unions in our country, and more than 6 700 employees and about 300 000 activists are selflessly serving in the field. November 11 - Trade Union Day of Uzbekistan is widely celebrated as an important date by all workers of our Republic.

Based on this, the first part of Article 208 of the Labor Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan is amended to designate November 11 - Trade Union Day of Uzbekistan as a non-working holiday.

It was emphasized by the participants of the meeting that the adoption of this Law serves to further strengthen the system of ensuring the professional, labor-related, socio-economic rights of employees.
