On November 13 of this year, together with the Committees of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis, UN agencies in Uzbekistan, within the framework of the fifth sustainable development goal, a round table was organized on the topic “Ensuring gender equality and empowering women”.Local and foreign experts, representatives of international organizations, deputies of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional, district and city Kengashes of people's deputies, representatives of relevant ministries and departments, as well as the media attended the event.

During the round table, issues of implementing national goals and objectives in the field of sustainable development, ensuring gender equality, combining the efforts and capabilities of government bodies and civil society institutions, and the public in achieving the SDGs were discussed.Participants also noted that large-scale work is underway to increase the social and political activity of women in the country, expand their participation in public administration, and ensure equal rights and opportunities.

It was emphasized that a reserve of personnel had been formed from among socially and politically active women to serve in government agencies. In particular, the Academy of Public Administration has organized separate training courses for training women leaders, the “School of Women Leaders,” where 100 active women are trained annually.

Attention is focused on strengthening practical cooperation between parliament, government and civil society institutions in the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, as well as organizing regular parliamentary and public hearings on this issue.Participants highly appreciated the effectiveness of the work done to date in these areas, and also expressed specific opinions and proposals on priority tasks for the future.
